A study by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that a quarter of the world’s population, 1.4 billion people, are not moving enough.
The study is based on self-reported data from 358 studies in 168 countries, involving 1.9 million people and has been published in the scientific journal The Lancet Public Health (here you can read the full study, published on September 4, 2018). The results show that more than a quarter of the world’s population is not moving enough, which can result in an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.
If current trends continue, the WHO target of reducing physical inactivity by 10% by 2025 will not be achieved.
